The course of poverty has no justification in our The course of poverty has no justification in our age...The time has come for us to civilize ourselves by the total, direct and immediate abolition of poverty." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Today we honor the life, work and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a legacy that endures and continues to inspire the change-makers of today. Dr. King's contributions to the fight for equality and human rights will never be forgotten, but there is still much work to do in order to achieve racial equity in the United States. Historical and systemic racism continue to drive racial inequities in our community, people of color continue to experience disproportionately high levels of homelessness, education inequities and poverty.

In King's fourth and final book 'Where do we go from here: Chaos or Community?' he lays out his thoughts, plans, and dreams for America’s future, including the need for better jobs, higher wages, decent housing, and quality education. King analyzes poverty, racism, and militarism and offers solutions, remedies and most of all...hope.

Today and everyday we ask you to commit to continuing King's unfinished racial and social justice work by conducting the personal and community work needed to create a more equitable society for all.
